Call for Proposals on "Animal Welfare: heat stress in livestock during transport"

Deadline: July 31st, 2024

EFSA has opened the Call for Proposals on "Animal Welfare: heat stress in livestock during transport". The call documents are available on the EU Funding and Tenders portal ref. EUBA-EFSA-2024-BIOHAW-02 and also on the EFSA website.

The call is open for Art.36 Competent Organisations.

The aim is the identification of Article 36 organisations to develop and validate an algorithm or model that can predict the effective temperature in a livestock vehicle using the weather forecast and the effect of mitigating strategies such the use of mechanical ventilation and varying the space allowance given to livestock.

The maximum budget EFSA has available is €402,900 (this type of grant has the form of financing not linked to the costs); the maximum duration of the Direct Agreement is 18 months from the kick-off meeting.

Provision of support to EFSA and to ECDC in the production of the EU One Health Zoonoses report

EFSA has published a Call for Tenders EFSA/2024/OP/0002 on "Provision of support to EFSA and to ECDC in the production of the EU One Health Zoonoses report". The call documents are available on the EU Funding and Tenders portal ref. EFSA/2024/OP/0002 and also on the EFSA website.

Building on recent improvements, EFSA aims to persist in effectively communicating scientific evidence on zoonoses and foodborne outbreaks by translating it into clear, accessible, and meaningful messages, following a One Health approach to address the diverse needs of audiences. The objective of the contract resulting from this procurement procedure is to support EFSA in producing the EU One Health Zoonoses report, and in maintaining and updating the related EFSA communication tools in each calendar year.

The estimated total value of a contact is €2,800,000; the maximum duration of the contract is 48 months.

Call for Proposals on "Pathway to animal welfare quantitative risk assessment: piloting a standardised collection of Animal Based Measures in pigs”

EFSA has opened the Call for Proposals EUBA-EFSA-2024-BIOHAW-01 on "Pathway to animal welfare quantitative risk assessment: piloting a standardised collection of Animal Based Measures in pigs". The call documents are available on the EU Funding and Tenders portal ref. EUBA-EFSA-2024-BIOHAW-01 and also on the EFSA website.

The call is open for Art.36 Competent Organisations.

The scope of this call is to select (existing and new) animal-based measures (ABMs) and related management-, resources- and environmental- based (so called ‘context’) data from sows and piglets and from different housing systems and practices, including slaughter, to collect in the field on a large scale and in a harmonised way across EU MSs. These data are to be used for developing a freely accessible prototype Database for analysing the correlation between ABMs and related context data and enabling future quantitative risk assessment of the welfare on-farm of sows and piglets.

The maximum budget EFSA has available is 1,500,000 (i.e. 90% of the total eligible project costs); the maximum duration of the Direct Agreement of 36 months from the kick-off meeting.

EFSA, the University of Parma, and the Catholic University del Sacro Cuore of Piacenza are organising the 2024 Parma Summer School on "Shaping the future of food systems: today’s applications and future perspectives of artificial intelligence".

The school seeks to provide early-career researchers and professionals with the opportunity to learn from experts in the field of artificial intelligence applied to the food sector.

During this three-day online event, the programme will encompass different aspects related to the use of artificial intelligence and explore its potential applications in the food system. Participation in this event is free of charge.
